Comedian Samay Raina has publicly addressed the backlash surrounding the second season of his show India's Got Latent, responding to criticism over jokes about people from Bihar and Kashmiri Pandits. According to Hindustan Times, Raina also pushed back against the label that the new season feels "filtered," saying, "It's just not the same anymore."
The controversy began after segments from the show circulated online, drawing sharp reactions from viewers and political figures. NDTV reports that social media users questioned how certain jokes targeting Biharis and Kashmiri Pandits were being normalised, with some calling the content offensive. The Times of India noted that Raina faced renewed scrutiny over remarks suggesting these communities "get publicity for free."
The backlash has escalated beyond online commentary. Telangana Today reports that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned Raina's alleged remarks, adding a political dimension to the growing criticism. The show's second season, which premiered recently, has now become a flashpoint in discussions about the limits of comedy in India.
